28 May 2021
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has reportedly banned skinny jeans from his nation claiming they promote a “capitalistic lifestyle.”
The skinny jeans ban however is just the top of the iceberg with Kim also allegedly banning mullet hairstyles and certain types of body piercings as part of a wider crackdown on foreign cultural soft power.
North Korea’s official newspaper allegedly called for “efforts to prevent capitalistic culture from seeping into the country” urging citizens to “hold on to our own lifestyle” or risk collapsing “like a damp wall.”

Skinny jeans have been a subject of controversy in the past for North Koreans, with some government officials viewing them as a form of class distinction and against communist values.
Whilst Kim Jung-un is busy banning skinny jeans over in the UK drivers can be fined up to £5000 for wearing baggy jeans, check out the story here.
