Apple To Move Away From Yearly Product “Upgrade” Release Cycle
7 Oct 2024
Apple will slowly move away from its yearly product upgrade release cycle, instead releasing products only when they’re ready and not releasing them if they’re not.
One reason for the strategy shake up is that Apple has a wider range of products these days, including several iPhones, iPads, Macs and AirPods.
Updating all of those products annually is no longer deemed practical.
It’s also fair to consider that Apple’s functional organisation structure, where teams work across multiple product lines, is straining under the pressure of annual updates for numerous devices and operating systems.
This has resulted in delayed features and software bugs in recent releases.
Is this the right move for Apple?
