A 16-year-old from the UK is under investigation by the FBI for allegedly masterminding the massive GTA VI leak that occurred over the weekend.

Rockstar issued a statement Monday admitting it had suffered a “network intrusion” which had led to the leaked information being taken from its servers.

The game developer said it was “extremely disappointed”, but confirmed there would be no “long-term effect” on development on the much anticipated latest instalment of the Grand Theft Auto series.

The teen in question is said to be affiliated with cybercrime team Lapsus$ who since the end of last year have been responsible for cyber attacks on companies including Microsoft, Samsung, Nvidia, Ubisoft and Uber who are currently in contact with the FBI and DOJ.

In March this year, BBC News reported on a 16-year-old from Oxford being accused of being one of the Lapsus$ group’s leaders.

The teen was one of seven arrested by City of London Police – before all were ultimately released under investigation.

“I had never heard about any of this until recently,” the 16-year-old’s father said at the time. “He’s never talked about any hacking, but he is very good on computers and spends a lot of time on the computer. I always thought he was playing games. We’re going to try to stop him from going on computers.”
