Nemzzz has become one of the most unique voices in UK rap. More so than any of the biggest artists in the scene, Nemzzz’s Manchester flow is instantly recognisable. His new tape RENT’S DUE is an intensification of the qualities that cemented him as one of the best talents coming out of the UK.

His mother and uncle being beatmakers explain how his beat choice is as unique and satisfying as his nonchalant flow. Again, heavily collaborating with producer Zel, whether it be gorgeous jazzy samples, ethereally textured vocal lines or gliding strings, every beat on the tape has a sheen of the highest quality.

Nemzzz’s rhythmic delivery is also more developed and varied than on his last tape DO NOT DISTURB from 2024. His humour shines through more here too: especially his sense of comedic timing with witty punchlines. The lyrical content infers more of a comfortability, or normality, with regards to the lavish lifestyle his talent has afforded him. Saying this, the constant homages to his roots remind us of how hard the grind has been.

‘COLD’, released as a single in February, features introspection on his past days before his success, ruminating on the effect of money on friendship; how “when bread’s involved, them guys you’re tight with movin’ different”.

‘TURKS AND CAICOS’ is pure hedonism. A glistening synth line conjures glamourous images of the tropical getaway, alongside emphasis on his access to luxury and equally glamourous women. ‘MIAMI’, featuring Brooklyn native Kyle Richh, does a similar thing.

‘DILEMMA’ is surely one of the biggest pulls of the tape. The hype for this tune can be seen through fakes on YouTube posing as early releases of the real thing. Nemzzz opts to mix his relaxed tone with a skippy flow, contrasting with Cench’s relentless triplets. Both artists complement each other perfectly.

‘SORRY’ talks directly to a romantic partner. Lyricism discussing his desire of her, his satisfaction with her being his, and the difficulty of balancing his career with his need to be in her company, sits on a grime-tinged, harp-based drill beat. STOP IT! and PAID partly navigate the hazards of fame such as envy, the precariousness of maintaining authenticity, and the wish to stay lowkey.

Nemzzz refines his sound with each release. If Central Cee’s success is anything to go by, Nemzzz’s more unique, unflustered sonic aesthetic is sure to ensure growth on growth on growth. Bigger things are coming for him shortly.
