10 Jul 2020
It’s safe to say, the UK Rap scene has been thriving since the start of 2020. Creating banger after banger, many of our favorite artists are becoming household names, not only throughout the nation but worldwide as well. Having seen the likes of Aitch, Stormzy, Fredo, M Huncho and more dominate the charts, it’s artists like Digga D, BandoKay, Unknown T, Meekz and Dutchavelli who have instantaneously established mad success!
Despite the current circumstances over the last few months, that hasn’t stopped our talented artists dropping singles of their own. We’re going to take a look at the highest charting UK Rap Solo releases in 2020.
Holding the top spot is no other than Stormzy. Having released a diss track earlier this year titled, Still Disappointed – the nation’s favourite rapper bagged a place at No.21. Shortly followed by M Huncho who landed at No.32 with his wavey hit Pee Pee. Birmingham’s very own Mist returned earlier this year with his club-esc, bouncing banger Savage that scored a place at No.35.
Digga D‘s growth is indisputable, having only released one track so far this year; Woi – the infectious hit has grabbed a spot at No.24 in the UK Official Charts and has amassed over 2.4 million views on YouTube in just over a week. Being an independent artist and carrying out his own creative vision and concepts, Digga D has grown from strength to strength. Not only this, the rising star has also achieved the following:
– Highest charting U.K. Drill Solo Single released in 2020
– 2nd Highest charting U.K. Solo rap single released in 2020
– 2nd Highest ever charting U.K. Solo Drill Single after No Diet
– First Solo Drill Act To Be Nominated For An AIM (Independent Music) Award
– Highest Charting Drill Album – Double Tap Diaries
A few weeks ago, Potter Payper made his big return to our screens. Returning with a vengeance, the cherished rapper dropped his 2020 Vision Freestyle. Amassing attention instantly, Payper was able to grab a spot at No.41 with his remarkable offering. Aitch released his latest project Polaris earlier this year, reaching No.36 with his stand-out single 30.
More recently the hit-maker B Young returned with his summer-infused single titled, Catch Me Outside. Known for making hit after hit, this single managed to grab a place at No.56. Manchester’s rising rapper Meekz made an appearance at No.50 with his single Like Me. Followed by NSG who also made a return with their debut mixtape Roots, grabbing a place at No.87 with their banger Grandad.
With a stack of bangers yet to arrive this coming year, it’s only guaranteed we’ll see more of these names going above and beyond!
