Suburban Spotlight: Bristol

Bristol, otherwise known as the 0117, is a bustling city filled with emerging talent located in the South-East of the country; home to the likes of Maya Jama and more, although the city hasn’t had a rapper rise to prominence quite yet, Bristol is brimming with exciting talent waiting for their time to blow! Standing as the fifth edition to our ‘Surburban Spotlight’ series, we have highlighted 6 new and emerging rappers you need to look out for!
Eekz
Posing as an artist to watch, 15 year-old Eekz has been working on his craft for the past few years and newly dropped his debut single “Da Drop” (below) last month. With only one solo track behind him, the surging rapper has already caught the attention of many with his deep cadence and skillful wordsmith. Influenced by Str88CashA, 33 and close friend Splashface, Eekz is also a member of the Bristol-based group 56 Entertainment. With what’s looking like a prosperous career ahead, he recently joined forces with Splashface for their fiery street heater titled, “CSV”. Built over a skittering and bass heavy Drill instrumental, both rappers compliment each others artistry perfectly – creating the ultimate banger! Although Eekz is only at the very beginning of his career, the emerging rapper is one to look out for!
Dotty
At 29 years of age, Dotty has been making some serious waves within the UK Rap game as of recently. Influenced by his environment and past experiences, he first launched onto the scene back in 2009. Going under a different name, Bs5Tdot, he shared “Shutting Them Down”; a diss track aimed at his opposing area, that soon amassed over 70,000 views on YouTube. Returning to music this year after a hefty hiatus, the Bristol native kick started the new decade with the visuals to his energy-driven track “European” (below). Glossing the melodic instrumental with a vigorous bite and raw street poetics, this single is currently sitting at just under 120,000 views on YouTube alone. Following up from his bold return, Dotty offloaded his second single titled, “British Bake Off”, a fierce joint fired by his indisputable confidence; “They should put me on British Bake Off / This pyrex dish gon’ take off” he raps. With a fresh batch of music on the way – it’s only a matter of time until Dotty blows!
Mulii
Influenced by K Trap, Trapx10, Kwengface and Karma, Mulii initially stepped onto the scene earlier this year with his greaze-enriched debut single, “Kitchen Whippin”. Clocking in at just under the 3 minutes long, Mulii attacked the Drill instrumental with ease; layering street poetics and cold wordplay over the jumpy beat – it’s safe to say the 22 year-old made a bold entrance to the UK Rap game! Following the momentum of “Kitchen Whippin”, he shortly followed through with “Just Eat” (below). Amassing over 30,000 views in just 2 weeks, Mulii’s undeniable pen game and wordsmith took centre stage in this one; “Get anything that you need / Put some work in the streets, this foot work is hurting my feet”, he raps. Built upon an eerie backdrop courtesy of MKThePlug, this joint instantly submerges you into Mulii’s creative vision. Paired with cinematic visuals, “Just Eat” proves why Mulii is one to watch from the 0117!
Splashface
If you are aware of the Drill scene in Bristol, you’ll be familiar with Splashface, who is formally known as D1. The ascending rapper began building the foundations to his career from the youthful age of 14/15, growing up around a musical family; “In my family, music is in our blood” he explained. Having spent hours in the studio perfecting his craft, Splashface took the plunge in October last year with his debut solo track “Keep Quiet”, flaunting his pen game and bouncing flow – this single turned the heads of many! Following the positive reception from his peers and supporters, Splashface hit us with with his “Music Lab” freestyle (below) and from then on, decided to take music to the next level. Standing confidently in-front of the mic, the 16 year-old impressed many with his jumpy flow and explosive bars – leaving many commenting that the Bristol native is next up! Joining forces with Eekz on “CSV” last month – Splashface is proving himself as a force to be reckoned with!
DVO
Having only commenced his journey in music a year ago, DVO is still at the very onset of his career. At 26 years old, the Bristol native impressed many with his debut track in August last year titled, “4 The K”. Posted in luxurious settings alongside his boys, DVO set the bar high with his energetic flow and memorable hook. Influenced by his day-to-day life and past experiences, he made a comeback earlier this year with “Blammed”; harnessed with a scampering Drill instrumental, this offering saw DVO boast his pen game and infectious bars throughout; “Big batty b*tch in my section, no dead tings when the bottles are pending / More time, man step in the rave with blades, don’t play when my n***a’s are flexing / 120 on the bottles expensive / I buss mans head then smoke my Benson” he rapped. More recently, he offloaded his brand new single, “Detour” (below), justifying his artistry further the ascending rapper took his music to the next level. Delivering nothing but heat, it’s safe to “Detour” is a certified banger! Reppin’ Bristol, we can’t wait to see what DVO has in store next!
Jibbzy
Jibbzy, known for his fierce, raw and lyrical prowess, is here to make a stand! At the flourishing age of 18, the newcomer has built a reputation around Bristol for his vigorous music. Unleashing the visuals to his debut track “Allow The Chat” last year, which is currently sat at just under 120,000 views on YouTube; Jibbzy made an explosive entrance to the game, detailing raw street poetics from start to finish! Known for his deep, gruff and aggressive vocal tone, the Bristol native has gained a boast-worthy fan base that like to refer to him as “Putting Bristol on the map”. Influenced by not only himself but his past experiences, you may also recognise the ascending rapper from the intense street heater “Pressure”, alongside R5. At the latter end of last year, he made a come back with one of his most prominent tracks to date “Feed’ Em” (below), a forceful and potent offering that caught the eyes of many! Stepping into 2020 with “Back2Back” alongside RZ – Jibbzy is a name to remember!
