Year one of Afro Nation Portugal saw thousands in attendance celebrating at the world’s biggest urban beach festival… and of course we were there to witness it all!

Headlined by performances from Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, and surprise guest J Hus, Afro Nation saw fans flocking to Portimao’s sands for an unforgettable 4 days. Throughout those days there was undeniable community atmosphere and uniting energy as well as family spirit. This, paired with the huge display of history making performances (which even saw Wizkid trending in Portugal), cemented the festival as a necessary, culturally significant event.

As well as performances from the afro beats royalty, an array of UK artists also performed with sets from, Ms Dynamite, Stefflon Don, Octavian, Mostack, Ms Banks and The Compozers.

As well as performances on the main stage, the festival also boasted beach parties hosted by Steel Banglez, BET andMTV’s Yo! Raps. Additionally, not only did the party take place on Portugal’s pristine beaches, Afro Nation held boat parties for those lucky enough to secure tickets in time.

Breathtaking Portuguese sunsets were the backdrops of the innumerable photos socials media users posted during and throughout the festival. All the photos contain beaming festival go-ers singing the praise of the festival that brought the essence of afro beats to those who appreciate it the most.

Despite doubters and naysayers who attempted to suggest the festival was to be a replica of the infamous ‘Fyre Fest’, the festival showed out as a cultural milestone becoming the first celebration of its nature and scale. As one tweeter put it’s best:
